In 1982, I was invited by my uncle (a psychology professor) to perform for his senior class as an illustration on the topic of Perception. This was the first time I had integrated a message like this in conjunction with my magic. In 1990, on the Oregon Coast, I presented the first “I Am Magic” program for a 2nd grade Special Education class. My wife and I then created a curriculum for the program and used it to assist graduating 5th graders who were uneasy about making the transition to a new school. Since that time, the program has undergone many ‘face-lifts’, and has been presented to literally thousands of young people, while the basic underlying principles have remained the same. In 2008, we changed the name to “Star Alexander’s M.A.G.I.C. Program”, to better represent the essential aspect, "It’s all about Attitude!"
The M.A.G.I.C. Program is built around two basic sentiments, 1) You can do almost anything you put your mind to, and 2) Things are not always as they seem. So much depends on one’s attitude! The art of magic is a powerful tool in providing illustrations for the 8 major ‘keys’ discussed in the program that unlock or open their corresponding ‘attitudes’.
This unique combination of magical illustrations, sleight of hand skill and interactive discussion has shown to greatly enhance the self-esteem of those participating. It is designed to teach life skills and character building to children while they learn about magic as an art form and gain an appreciation for professional performance.

Who does this program directly serve and how?
The program fits dynamically into the Core Programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, since the major emphasis is on assisting children in improving their self-confidence. It creatively enhances and in some way corresponds to: Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, and The Arts. It is also excellent for theater groups and after-school programs, such as Safe-Key.
Program and presentations
The M.A.G.I.C. Program is presented in a 50 minute*
format/show in front of the group, with audience participation.
This allows for more discussion of the topics with the teacher or facilitator at a later time. The Program guide assists in furthering the process and inspires dialogue from the audience to discuss the topics. The major question (theme) is not HOW the magic is done, but WHY and in what manner the illustrations and topics relate to the individual and their life.
*Also available as a two hour afternoon or evening workshop. The program is fully customizable to incorporate specific areas of focus.
It is our sincere desire to bring this program to as many children as possible, and to do so with the greatest amount of optimal participation. Ultimately, our goal is to 'grow' the program for National participation.
The M.A.G.I.C. Program Guide is an integral part of the program as it allows the message to reach a larger audience including the family unit, opening to more discussion of the topics with parents and peer groups, as well as increase the potential for lasting effect.
